Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 17, 2026

This policy explains what personal data mymypc.com collects, why it is collected, how long it is kept and what you can ask us to do about it. It covers this website only. It does not cover Amazon, or any other site you reach by following a link from here.

The short version

You can read every page on this site without giving us your name. We collect personal data in three situations: you send us a message, your browser requests a page and the server logs that request, or our analytics records a page view. We do not sell personal data, we run no advertising networks or retargeting pixels, and we build no marketing profiles.

What we collect and why

Messages you send us

The form on our contact page runs on the Contact Form 7 plugin. Whatever you type into it, typically your name, your email address and your message, is emailed to us and is also saved as a record inside this website’s own database by a companion plugin (CFDB7), so that a message is not lost if the email fails. That record can also include the date, the time and the IP address the message came from. We use it only to read and answer you. Do not put anything sensitive in the form. It is a contact form on a website, not a secure channel.

Server access logs

Like effectively every web server, ours writes a line for each request. That line normally contains your IP address, the date and time, the URL requested, the response code, the referring URL if your browser sent one, and your user agent string. These logs let us diagnose errors, see when the site is under attack and identify abusive automated traffic. A bot protection component reads the same request data for that purpose.

Analytics

We run our own analytics rather than handing traffic data to an advertising company. It records the page you viewed, the referring page, rough device and browser information, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. To tell a returning visitor from a new one it stores two random identifiers in your browser: dd_vid, which can persist for up to two years, and a session identifier ddc_sid, which expires after around thirty minutes. Neither contains your name or email address, and we do not try to link them to a real person. Our cookie policy lists these in more detail.

Cookies set by the site itself

WordPress sets a test cookie to check that cookies work, and sets login and preference cookies for anyone who signs in to the administration area. The site’s storefront software can set session cookies. The caching layer that serves pages quickly may set a cookie to decide which cached version of a page you should receive. None of these are advertising cookies.

Amazon’s cookies

When you follow a product link from this site, you leave for Amazon. Amazon then sets its own cookies in your browser, including the cookie that records that the visit came from us so that any qualifying purchase is credited to our affiliate account. We do not set, read or control those cookies, and we never see what you looked at or bought. Amazon reports commissions to us in aggregate, without customer identities. Amazon’s own privacy notice governs everything that happens after you leave this site. Our affiliate disclosure explains the commercial relationship.

Legal basis for processing

If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, we rely on these bases under the General Data Protection Regulation. Answering a message you sent us rests on our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries, and on your own act of contacting us. Server logs, error diagnosis and bot filtering rest on our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and working. Analytics that are not strictly necessary rest on your consent where your jurisdiction requires it, and you can refuse them by blocking cookies as described in the cookie policy. Where a legal obligation requires us to keep records, that obligation is the basis.

How long we keep things

We will not pretend to a retention schedule this site cannot enforce. Contact form records stay in the website database until we delete them, which happens when we clear old entries or when you ask us to remove yours. Server access logs are rotated and overwritten by the hosting stack on its own schedule, normally within weeks rather than years, and we do not archive them. Analytics records are kept in aggregate and are not tied to a named individual. Cookies expire on the timetable in the cookie policy, or sooner if you clear them.

Who else sees your data

We do not sell, rent or trade personal data, and we do not share it for cross context behavioral advertising. Data is handled by the hosting provider that runs the server, by the mail service that delivers form messages, and by the analytics service we operate ourselves, each on our instructions. We may disclose information where the law, a court order or a valid legal request requires it, or where it is necessary to investigate abuse of the site.

International transfers

The site is served from infrastructure that may sit in a different country from you, and our providers may process data in the United States or the European Union. Where personal data leaves the United Kingdom or European Economic Area, we rely on the transfer mechanisms our providers put in place, such as standard contractual clauses.

Children

This site is written for adults buying computer hardware. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13, or under 16 where local law sets that age. If you believe a child has sent us personal data through the contact form, email us and we will delete the record.

Your rights

Under the GDPR and the UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict how we use it, object to processing based on legitimate interests, ask for your data in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time. You can also complain to your national data protection authority.

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended gives you the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to obtain a copy, to have it corrected or deleted, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and to be treated no differently for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of. Other states with similar laws grant broadly similar rights, and we handle those requests the same way.

How to make a request

Email [email protected] and say what you want us to do. Because we hold very little, the most useful thing you can give us is the email address you used and roughly when you contacted us, so we can find the record. We may ask one follow up question to confirm the request is genuinely yours. We aim to respond within 30 days, and within 45 days for requests under California law. An authorized agent may act for you with written proof of authority. There is no charge unless a request is excessive or repetitive.

Security, and its limits

The site is served over HTTPS, administrative access is restricted, and software is kept updated. No website can promise that data sent over the internet is completely safe, and we do not make that promise.

Do Not Track

There is still no agreed standard for responding to Do Not Track browser headers, and this site does not act on them. Blocking or clearing cookies is the reliable way to stop the identifiers above being stored, and the cookie policy explains how.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or why, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Continuing to use the site after a change means the revised policy applies to you.
